An abandoned bowling alley finds a second life in this beautiful series of furniture by LA-based designer/woodworker William Stranger. Crafted from reclaimed strips of wood salvaged from a local defunct Tava Lanes Bowling alley, the collection springs to life in a variety of forms including a series of wall hangings and a low coffee table.

San Francisco Reaches Highest Recycling Rate in U.S. at 72%
San Francisco is well on its way to reaching the lofty goal of a 75% recycling rate by 2010. Today Mayor Gavin Newsoms office announced that the city has attained the title of US recycling king by keeping 72% of ALL recyclable material out of landfills.

California Coastal Towns Banning Foam Take-out Containers
A growing number of California coastal communities have banned the use of polystyrene take-out containers by restaurants.
Palo Altos ban on the containers takes effect April 22, 2010, reports PlasticsNews.
The ban extends to containers, clamshells, bowls, plates, cartons and cups, but not straws, utensils or hot cup lids.
